Business Blogging Fundamentals, Part 4: Top 10 Ways to Promote Your Blog

Now that you have an idea of what a blog is (from Part 1 of this series on Blogging), and you also know the key considerations for a successful blog (Part 2: Business Blogging Fundamentals) as well as when to blog and what to blog about (Part 3), it’s time to consider how to get as much visibility as possible for that blog you’ve just written.
There are lots of ways to promote your blog, but here in Part 4 of our Blogging Series, I’m concentrating on  some very simple and easy ways that are effective at getting an audience for your blog:

  1. Add a link to your Blog on your email signature – adding a hyperlink in your email signature makes it easy for people to find your blog and easy to forward your blog’s URL to others
  2. Add social sharing buttons on your Blog – add a TweetMeme and FaceBook share button on your blog so it’s easy to share across social networks
  3. Connect your Blog to LinkedIn via Applications – if you connect LinkedIn to your blog, a brief summary will appear on your LinkedIn profile page, a great way to get more visibility
  4. Connect your Blog to Facebook via Notes - the Notes application in Facebook is another easy way to get more “face” time for your blog
  5. Connect your Blog to Twitter via Twitter widget (Twitterfeed) - Twitterfeed is a plugin in WordPress that makes it easy to share your blog’s headline and URL to Twitter
  6. Tell/Email your friends, family – just simply letting people know that you’ve written a blog is a good way to get some PR
  7. Add a Blog link on email newsletter – your blog should be on as many offline pieces of marketing material as possible, and even better – can replace and save the expense of a physical, printed newsletter
  8. Guest post/blog on other websites – trade and invite other bloggers to guest post on your website and other websites
  9. Share your blog on other bookmarking websites – e.g. Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit are social bookmarking sites that get a lot of traffic
  10. Submit your blog for publication on other websites – the only caveat here is that you need to consider the fact that Google doesn’t like duplicated content, so be judicious and selective in re-publishing the same blog in multiple places

So, remember that just writing your fantastic blog isn’t enough. You still have to promote, market and get your blog seen by that audience.
